Flyer Promoting Mary Mansour's Sala

Translated By Priscilla Adum

This old flyer is probably from the 1930's. It announces the schedule and address of Mary Mansour's club, El Sala El Masreia. It was located on Emad El Din Street in Cairo.

The flyer advertises a new singer every night, a comedy monologue, and a comedy show. It then lists the dancers who will perfom "Modern" Raqs Sharqi:

  • Hekmet Fahmy
  • Fat7iea Fahmy
  • Karema Ahmed
  • Souad Ousman
  • Hind

Hekmet Fahmy was the featured star of Mary Mansour's sala. She also danced at Badia Masabni's sala as well. Many of Mary Mansour's dancers and singers left to go work at Badia's place when Badia's club became popular and well known, including Farid el Atrash and his sister Asmahan. They had worked for Mary Mansour first.
