About this Song
This song was composed by Vasilis Vasiliadis, a Greek musician. In 1969, a version of it with Greek lyrics was released by Manos Papadakis under the title "Mia Dekara Den Axizi I Agapi Sou," and a version with Turkish lyrics by Semiramis Pekkan under the title "Ne Geçti Elime".
Giti Pashayi's song in Farsi, "Gole Maryam", was released two years, later, in 1971, and became the hit that launched her to fame.
Other artists who later recorded the Farsi version of this song include Sheila (2006), Mory (2005), and Afghani singer Ahmed Wali.
About Giti Pashayi
Giti Pashayi was one of the more popular Iranian singers of the early 1970's. Her grandfather was known as a musician, and as a child she was given the opportunity to attend master classes in music. She spent time in New York studying architecture, music composition, and musical harmony and orchestration. The initial hit that made her famous was "Gole Maryam". Her singing career ended in 1979 with the Islamic Revolution, which forbade women to sing in public. She then shifted direction with her career, composing soundtracks for Iranian movies.

Flower of Mary (1) |
I put flower of Mary in your path. |
I naively believed your promises. |
|
|
|
Remember |
|
I remember being in the silence of the desert that night |
|
The moonlight, and me, and the scent of flowers. |
Alone |
|
|
Sorrow |
Our hearts |
|
|
You left, and that dream died |
In my heart, I was without you |
I wasted my life waiting for you |
Curse this world! |
|

I put flower of Mary in your path. |
I naively believed your promises. |

- "Maryam" is the Farsi equivalent of the name "Mary", and "gole" means "flower". In Iran, this is the name used for the flower that we call "tuberose" in English.
