Lyrics

Farsi Lyrics

English Translation

Gole sangam, gole sangam,
chibe gam az, dele tangam
mesle aftab, agar barman
natabi sardamo bi rangam
I am a flower of stone,
What to say from my longing heart
like sun if not on me, it doesn't shine
I am cold and colorless
Gole sangam, gole sangam,
chibe gam az, dele tangam
mesle aftab, agar barman
natabi sardamo bi rangam
I am a flower of stone,
What to say from my longing heart
like sun if not on me, it doesn't shine
I am cold and colorless
haame ah haam, haame dar dam
mesle tufan, pore gardam
haame ah haam, haame dar dam
mesle tufan, pore gardam
ahem mastam, kehtuu saahraa
mi picham dore tome gardam
I am all sighs and pain
Like a storm full of dust
A drunken wind in the desert
Lost and going in circles around you
mesle baroon, agar nabori
khabaraz haa--leh man nadori
bi tu par par, misham doruuzeh
dele sangait, baram misuzeh
Gole sangam, gole sangam
chibe gam az, dele tangam
if you don't fall on me like rain,
and you don't know how I'm doing
I'll be losing my petals in two days
Your stone heart is softening for me
I am a stone flower
What to say from my longing heart

About the Translation

Note from Lennie Clark: The Persian lyrics and translation of this haunting song were sent to me by Eva Cernik. I had seen her dance to the song on her Eva As Dancer II video (available through her website). and fallen in love with it. I later showed the translation to Persian musician Darioush Sami and he helped me with the pronunciation and changed a few syllables of the transliteration in a couple of places, but approved the translation. One of the most charming parts of this song is the downward instrumental phrase which comes at the end of each verse.

About the Source

This article originally appeared on Lennie Clark's web site, "Arabic Song Translations." Lennie created this web site in 2002 as a response to discussion on the Internet regarding incidents of dancers who performed inappropriate sensual dances to religious music. Lennie's web site resided on a free web hosting service known as Geocities.

When the planned October 2009 closure of the Geocities web hosting service was announced, Lennie and Shira agreed to move the contents of Lennie's site to Shira.net. To explore all the articles and song translations that once appeared on Lennie's Geocities site, visit Lennie's portal page here on Shira.net.
