Wana Wana Aamil Eih
(What To Do?)

This page contains a translation into English of the lyrics to the pop song "Wana Wana Aamil Eih", which was sung by Hisham Abbas. Another way to spell this song title is "W-Ana W-Ana Amel Ay".

Hisham Abbas was originally named "Mohammad Hisham Mahmoud Mohammad Abbas", but is now known simply as "Hisham Abbas". He was born September 13, 1963.

After completing a master's degree in engineering at the American University in Cairo, he decided to pursue art rather than a career in engineering. After some time in a band with some of his friends, he began a collaboration with Hameed El Shaery and released a series of successful songs that established his place in the Egyptian music scene. His career gained momentum in the 1990's, culminating with his most successful hit (to date), "Habibi Dah".

Lennie Clark's comment about this song: "This lively pop song, recorded by Hisham Abbas, features a gorgeous acapella lead-in which grabbed me the first time I heard it. And the clean bright sound of Hisham Abbas voice always makes me happy!"

What can I do?
It is out of my hands
There is love inside me singing with yearning and desire
I live only in my dream
A wish to see you
A hope to find you
To draw my name around your heart
And dream you will search for me
What can I do?
In the long dark night
when you alone are the moon?
What can I do amidst such confusion?
When the fire of love burns
And I desire a journey to you
Alone on the sea of love
I long to sail upon your shore
What can I do?
Each night has sung its song for me
With visions of you
When my heart was seething with pain
I dream to see you draw my name around you
And you will search for me
What can I do?
What can I do?

About the Source

This article originally appeared on Lennie Clark's web site, "Arabic Song Translations." Lennie created this web site in 2002 as a response to discussion on the Internet regarding incidents of dancers who performed inappropriate sensual dances to religious music. Lennie's web site resided on a free web hosting service known as Geocities.

When the planned October 2009 closure of the Geocities web hosting service was announced, Lennie and Shira agreed to move the contents of Lennie's site to Shira.net.
