About İbrahim Tatlıses

İbrahim Tatlıses is a well-known singer and actor of mixed Turkish and Kurdish ancestry. He launched his career in the 1970's, with his first big hit "Ayağında Kundura" in 1976. He has released over 40 albums, and appeared in more than 30 motion pictures. He hosted a popular television program named Ibo Show.

For a time, Tatlıses and the dancer Asena were lovers. In 2003, she was shot in the leg, and many have speculated that Tatlıses was behind it. In 2004, Asena filed a lawsuit asking the authorities for protection against him.

(His name is spelled in the English alphabet as Ibrahim Tatlises. Note that in the Turkish spelling his first name is spelled with a dot above the capital İ, and his surname uses a dotless ı.)

English Translation

Mavişim mavilendim My blue-eyed darling, I'm blue,
Kapına kilitlendim locked in [my feelings for] you
Mavişim mavilendim My blue-eyed darling, I'm blue,
Kapına kilitlendim locked in [my feelings for] you.
Pas tutmuştu yüreğim My heart rusted,
Seninle yenilendim but I revived because of you.

Hey hey hey hey Hey hey hey hey
Göz bebeğim (mavişim) The pupil of my eye (my blue-eyed darling)
Tek dileğim (mavişim) My only wish (my blue-eyed darling)
Sensizlikten (mavişim) öleceğim I will die without you (my blue-eyed darling)
Kır çiceğim (mavişim) My wildflower (my blue-eyed darling)
Bal peteğim (mavişim) My honeycomb (my blue-eyed darling)
Sensizlikten (mavişim) öleceğim I will die without you (my blue-eyed darling)

Mavi kız kara çocuk Blue-eyed girl, black-haired boy
Gözleri boncuk boncuk eyes like a bead, a bead (1)
Mavi kız kara çocuk Blue-eyed girl, black-haired boy
Gözleri boncuk boncuk eyes like a bead, a bead
Ben sevdalı bir diken I am a thorn in love,
Sen açmamış domurcuk and you are a bud.
